about Jonathan Erlich

Jonathan, otherwise known as Yoni, had a racquet in his hand since he was three years old through the inspiration of his Father.  It was when he was 12 when he decided to make tennis his passion and number one sport.  Soccer was a very close second, and even today Yoni would be a soccer player if he was not a tennis player.  Soccer is the number one sport in Argentina, which happens to be the birthplace of Yoni.  Born in Buenos Aires, Argentina his family did not stay there to long as they left for Israel when Yoni was just one year old.

After leaving Argentina and settling down in Israel, Yoni began playing tournaments at the early age of seven.  As one of the top juniors during his the time, he met his current partner Andy Ram through junior tournaments.  Yoni began his pro career playing futures and challengers in his native land of Israel.  He turned pro in 1996 and made himself a household name on the Futures circuit by winning his first doubles title in 1998. It was in 2000, where he won his first ATP tournament on the grass courts in Newport.  Jonathan knew from there he had solidified himself as a true doubles specialist.

Yoni, interestingly enough was on his way to retirement in 2003.  His partner and great friend Andy Ram convinced him to make an attempt at the 2003 Wimbledon Championships.  They had to qualify to reach there way into the main draw.  Reach the main draw they did and from there they went on to the semifinals.

Four years later, Jonathan Erlich became a household name in the tennis world and has made his mark as a top 10 doubles player. He is currently ranked 7th in the ATP Doubles Race.  Jonathan and his fellow countrymen Andy Ram are looking to climb up the rankings as their most successful part of the year, the summer, is now upon them.
